Lack of walks or insufficient time outside

For a healthy psyche, a dog needs physical activity and social contacts. For a pet under three years old – this is at least 4 hours on the street, for pets older – from two hours. On a walk, a dog fulfills basic needs, such as getting new information and interacting with other dogs.

Walking only on a short leash, with endless pulls, on the same route also leads to problems. The dog remembers not too important things for several months. When the owner walks the dog on the same route day after day, week after week, it is very boring for the pet. The owner walks in headphones or surfs the Internet, he is not bored, he constantly has an influx of new information, but the dog does not have such an opportunity.

Even worse, if the owner forces the dog to walk alongside for the entire walk, this often happens with large breeds. The owner is afraid and unsure about raising his pet, or the dog already has problems and is showing aggression. There is also an option when the animal has developed a phobia. The fear is so great that the pet is literally stuck to the legs for the whole, usually a short walk.

Too short or irregular walks also do not add psychological health to pets.

Unadapted home environment

What could be better than interior design? Harmonious colors, beautiful furniture – everything for a person, live and rejoice. But a dog is not a person. It’s hard to meet people who call in a canine designer and adapt the space for a pet. It is impossible to have a healthy mind in a place where you can only sleep. A pet spends up to 12 hours a day alone, and for a healthy psyche, at least 4 hours a day, not counting walks, you need to do something.

What if the dog is in a cage? What can she do but destroy her teeth on the bars and destroy the contents, and then herself. On the basis of boredom, longing for the owner, unpleasant annoying sounds in the apartment, destructive behavior and vocalization are manifested.

If the animal does not sit in a cage, then it begins to explore everything around, including ruining the garbage heap, chewing on furniture, “dismantling” wallpaper, skirting boards, and so on. There is nothing else left, because the environment is not adapted to the needs of the pet.

Phobias in dogs

Dog shelters are a forced but much more humane alternative to vagrancy or euthanasia. But, despite the good intentions, the conditions in the shelters leave much to be desired: overcrowding, close cohabitation of dogs of different sex, age, temperament. Lack of concern for animals on the part of humans.

Animals set their own rules, live according to the strict laws of the pack, more temperamental dogs constantly challenge each other for leadership, which leads to injuries and the development of neurosis. Weaker individuals plunge into the abyss of fear, hide in the farthest, darkest corner and cannot contact either humans or other animals.

The shelter staff do their best, but in the current situation, when admission to shelters is on average 70% higher than the number of animals given to families, sometimes there are up to 100 dogs per person. And we are talking about prosperous shelters, where animals are taken care of, but in disadvantaged shelters, in black overexposures and apartments of “gatherers”, things are much worse.

Despite all our mistakes, our dogs love us very much – this is an indisputable fact. The bond between a dog and its owner is very strong and sometimes results in negative behavior. This mostly applies to small puppies, insecure dogs and pets that already have a neurosis. The dog is not adapted to separation, the environment is not adapted to the dog, the dog is anxious and starts to gnaw on the owner’s things.

Another scenario is a howl. If a person wants to call someone, he calls by phone, pets do not have such an opportunity.

Stay in a cage or on a chain

A separate topic is dogs that live all their lives in an aviary or on a chain. The vast majority of owners believe that the chain is not very good, but the aviary is a completely different matter. But it’s not. A box with a booth 2 by 2 meters is not much better than a chain, and it is very important to understand this. Indeed, an adapted environment for a dog, its own place and toys is good, but this cannot exclude walks, communication with fellows and a person.
